Not Traditional Body Casting — A Body Impression Art Experience

People often find my work by searching for “body casting” or “body casting art.” That makes sense, because it’s the language that exists..the doorway most people know when they’re looking for a way to create personalised artwork from their body.

Body casting, in its traditional sense, is a sculptural process where a mould is taken directly from the body to create a three-dimensional cast. It’s detailed, bold, and exact. For some people, that directness feels powerful and wonderful. For others, it can feel like a lot... especially if their relationship with their body is tender or complicated.

When I first began working with the body, I realised I was looking for something untraditional. I explored life drawing, and body casting intrigued me, but once I started experimenting with body impressions, something got me hooked. Creating them became a byproduct of play and intrigue, and I loved that.

Rather than creating a static replica of the body, body impressions are imprints that are part of a very powerful process. They don’t shout; they suggest. They hold presence without demanding attention. I often describe them as a less “in your face” alternative to traditional body casting, particularly for people seeking body casting as a way to nurture body acceptance or enjoy a more therapeutic experience.

The process itself matters just as much as what’s made. Unlike traditional body casting, this work isn’t static. We don’t freeze or hold static poses. We move, we press, we play. The process is interactive and responsive, shaped by sensation and choice rather than instruction.

You can take as much time as you need ...fast or slow, quiet or curious. There’s no rush to capture something “perfect.”

Everything is a choice: colour, pose, pressure, pace. Your body leads. For many people, that difference is everything.

I work with people who are curious about therapeutic body casting but who don’t want their body fixed into a mould or turned into a rigid sculpture. People who are tired of being looked at, assessed, or improved. In that context, body impressions offer a gentler alternative — a body casting experience that centres feeling rather than form.

What often surprises people is how connecting the experience is. This work isn’t only about creating art; it’s about reconnecting with your body through touch and movement, about sensing your weight, your edges, your presence. Many people describe it as a deeply grounding - a form of body acceptance art that stays with them long after the imprint is made.

Body casting and body impressions aren’t in opposition; they’re simply different languages.

One speaks in structure and permanence. The other speaks in softness, movement, and choice. My work lives in that second language. It’s influenced by the wider world of body casting, but it’s shaped by a desire to create something more spacious — a one-to-one body casting alternative that feels kind, responsive, and human. A way of meeting the body without asking it to perform, a way of creating personalised artwork without fixing the body in place, a softer way in.

If you’re curious, you don’t need to know exactly what you’re looking for. We begin where your body is and let it unfold from there.
